Read180 is a
research-based reading program that is designed to raise reading levels
and test scores of struggling readers. Students in Read180 have a 90
minute class period, during which they rotate into three areas designed to
help them improve reading skills. During one rotation, students
independently read books at an independent reading level. Another rotation
is when students use the computer program, working through a series of
articles designed to improve vocabulary, spelling as well as
comprehension. The software is divided into 4 levels depending upon the
reading lexile of the student. The third rotation is a small group working
with the instructor to enhance skills necessary for reading comprehension.
The overall goal of any Read 180 program is to bring students up more than
one year in reading ability. Students do a 180 turnaround as their skills
improve. Many students find that reading becomes a pleasurable activity as
their understanding grows. For additional information on Read180 programs
